BIOGRAPHY
After his debut at the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and a concert with the Staatskapelle Dresden, in the 2007/08 season 32-year-old conductor Tomas Netopil debuted in concert with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Geneve, Orchestre National du Capitole Toulouse, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Frankfurter Museumsorchester, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Flandern. He also debuted at the Bayerischen Staatsoper Munich with a new production of Busoni’s Doktor Faust for the Münchner Opernfestspiele and conducted the new opera production of Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro at the Palau de la Musica Valencia with which he will also present himself at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden.
Last season, Tomas Netopil debuted at the Deutschen Oper Berlin and collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de Lille, and the Orchestre National de Montpellier. In the Mozart-year Tomas Netopil made his debut at the Salzburger Festspiele in a Teatro La Fenice Venezia production of Lucio Silla and conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatsorchester Stuttgart and Staatskapelle Weimar. Furthermore, he was the music director of three important opera-productions in Italy, Nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, Fidelio at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, and Entführung aus dem Serail at the Teatro Regio Torino. He conducted concerts at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa (Mozart-Cycle), the Teatro Regio Parma, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
Tomas Netopil was invited by David Zinman to make his debut with the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich; he also conducted the Filarmonica della Scala, the final concerts of the Mozart-festival at the Accademia Santa Cecilia Roma, a new production of Cosi fan tutte at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa and opened the concert season at the Teatro Regio Parma. Furthermore, he conducted concerts at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, the Teatro Lirico Cagliari, the Teatro La Fenice Venezia and at the Gewandhaus Leipzig. After his debut at the Prague Spring Festival, he conducted Dvorak-Stabat Mater at the Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg, the Kongresshaus Innsbruck and the Stefaniensaal Graz. He also conducted Janacek´s Cunning Little Vixen at the Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla and collaborated with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Janacek Philharmonic and the Talich Chamber Orchestra.
Tomas Netopil studied violin and conducting in his native Czech republic as well as at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with the famous Prof. Jorma Panula, who has taught many prominent conductors. In 2002 he won the 1st Sir Georg Solti Conductors Competition at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, where the jury included Michael Gielen, Gary Bertini, Sylvain Cambreling and Paolo Carignani.
